5 Anti-Aging Tips to Follow In Your 20s and 30s

The skin goes through many changes as it ages. If you haven’t started taking care of your skin in your 20s and 30s now is the time to start! During this time, many will begin to see the first signs of aging. Studies show, cell turnover rates and the production of collagen and elastin begin to slow down in your 20s and 30s. Collagen and elastin are structural proteins in skin which keep it firm and supple.

1. Establish a basic skincare regimen

Before adding in additional steps to address the first signs of aging skin, it is important to establish a basic daily skincare regimen. The steps are: cleanse, tone, moisturize and protect.

The first three steps should be done morning and night. Skin is an organ that has a “clock,” meaning that part of the normal circadian cycle is for the skin to replenish skin cells and repair DNA at night. This is part of how cells detoxify themselves. If makeup and debris have not been properly removed the skin can’t get oxygen needed for repair.

The final step of your basic regimen, protect, is arguably the most important steps to prevent skin’s signs of aging. Did you know that 80-90% of skin’s aging is caused by sun exposure and up to 80% of the sun’s rays can penetrate clouds? Whether it is cloudy and rainy or the brightest day outside, it is necessary to wear a sunscreen to protect your skin.

We have three sunscreens to choose from based on your skin type: Oil Free SPF 40+ for oily skin, Moisturizing Tint SPF 30+ for combination skin, Daily Mineral Defense SPF 30 for dry skin and Solar Shade SPF 50 for sensitive skin.

2. Care for your eyes

One of the first areas signs of aging appear is around the eyes, so adding an eyecare product to your daily routine will make a huge difference! Depending on your main concerns, we have several eye products to choose from.

An ideal eye product to use at the first signs of aging is Eye Restore. This lightweight eye cream will help improve fine lines, puffiness and restore skin’s texture. Plus, it’s suitable for all skin types.

3. Add an exfoliant to your weekly routine

Since cell turnover begins to slow down in the 20s and 30s, it is time to add an exfoliant to your weekly routine. It is not beneficial to exfoliate every day because too much exfoliation can cause inflammation. We recommend exfoliating 1-3 times per week and to start slowly. Glo Skin Beauty's exfoliants offer a range of products to choose based on skin type.

For a gentle yet effective exfoliant, choose Refresh Facial Polish for oily skin. Use Pumpkin Enzyme scrub for combination skin, Brightening Polish for dry skin and Gentle Enzyme Exfoliant for sensitive skin.

4. Use an antioxidant serum and a hydrator

The final ingredient pair to add to your daily routine is Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid. Vitamin C is a gold standard skincare ingredient. Our body needs Vitamin C to stimulate collagen production but our bodies do not produce Vitamin C on their own. The best way to deliver it to the skin is through a topical application.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant, a brightener and is anti-inflammatory. Pairing Hyaluronic Acid with Vitamin C improves penetration and helps safeguard skin against environmental damage. Apply Daily Power C and follow with Daily Hydration in the morning after toning.

5. See an esthetician

For a more personalized approach, see an esthetician. They can help keep your skin in good condition for years to come! Your 20s and 30s is the time to develop healthy habits so you might be able to focus on prevention more than reversal in the future. Find your local Glo Skin Beauty retailer.
