For thousands of years, Green Tea has treated and healed tons of different ailments. Just one Google search of ‘Green Tea Benefits’ leads you to a very long list of perks, ranging from increased fat burning to heightened brain function to nourished skin and even a lowered risk of cancer. It’s true, Green Tea can be an incredible ingredient to include in your life. It should be noted, however, that Green Tea is NOT a miracle replacement for normal medicine/treatments.
Here at Glo Skin Beauty, we believe in the benefits of combining science and nature. We choose to use both of these forces within our products to create powerful and active formulas that deliver results. This is the driving factor behind our inclusion of Green Tea in so many of your favorite products.
As an ingredient, Green Tea has many forms but for best results, the extract form is used to harness the true essence of the leaves. The topical benefits of this powerful ingredient are abundant, leading to its popularity in skincare formulas. Naturally containing a high content of active polyphenols and tannins (fancy words for micronutrients), Green Tea Extract provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory repair to strengthen skin, protect cells and prevent the breakdown of collagen. This is all to say, Green Tea Extract can help with some of the top skin concerns:
Green Tea Extract’s anti-inflammatory properties and caffeine content make it an ideal ingredient for any formulas that address under eye puffiness. This depuffing ingredient is found in Eye Restore, for obvious reasons, making it a great choice if undery eye puffiness is your main concern. It is also found in all of our Eye Shadow shades (singles, quads and palettes), Under Eye Concealer and Brow Powders, meaning you can fight under eye bags with skincare AND makeup.
Nothing can ever substitute sunscreen but research shows that Green Tea Extract has a positive effect on reducing sun damage. Though it doesn't block UV rays, Green Tea Extract can help with the fight against damaging free radicals. This is especially helpful when included in a product you use on your entire face everyday, like a foundation. Luckily, all of our base formulas contain the same Green Tea Extract. When paired with a suitable SPF, they provide an excellent barrier between you and the sun. Pro Tip: Including a Vitamin C serum can also enhance your skin's free radical fighting powers!
Green Tea (among other plants, fruits and beverages) contains catechins, also known as antioxidants. One catechin found in Green Tea, Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), is especially helpful at eliminating acne-causing bacteria. In addition to Green Tea Extract’s anti-inflammatory properties, EGCG provides antibacterial agents, offering natural astringent qualities. In a double blind study, 80% of women aged 24-45 with moderate to severe acne experienced significant reductions in the number of inflammatory acne regions after a 4 week period of using a daily dose of EGCG. You can find Green Tea Extract in our Glycolic Acid Trio of cleanser, toner and moisturizer, which help clear congested skin.
Though Green Tea Extract won’t erase your wrinkles or firm sagging skin, it can help slow the aging process by cleansing the skin and removing impurities. In the same way EGCG helps acne sufferers, it also helps those with aging concerns by repairing DNA damage. Additionally, Green Tea is filled with Vitamin B2 and Vitamin E, which help maintain collagen levels. For those not yet versed on why you need collagen, it helps you maintain your youthful glow. We’ve included Green Tea Extract in our popular Phyto-Active Cream Cleanser, specifically for this reason. With extended use, skin will have a more even tone and improved radiance.
