When we say we leverage the best of science AND nature, we’re not kidding. Creating formulas with high quality, effective ingredients is the core of our business and it helps us deliver on the promise of healthy, youthful skin. And when talking about plant-based ingredients that make a visible impact on your skin, we’re usually referring to plant stem cells.
In fact, plant stem cells are so important, we made an entire collection dedicated to products that contain these powerful ingredients, known as Phyto-Active. While plant stem cells are mainly used in anti-aging formulas, their benefits can extend farther beyond that and can even help improve hydration, tone and texture. If you’re thinking to yourself, “Yes! Give me all of the plant stem cells!” We support it, but if you have acne-prone, sensitive or young (under 26 years old) skin, you may want to hold off, some of these formulas can do more harm than good.
Okay, tell me more
If you’ve never heard of plant stem cells or had no idea that they were the star ingredients in our Phyto-Active collection, have no fear, we would never dream of leaving you in the dark on this topic. Even if you don’t know anything about stem cells, you can probably agree that plants are pretty resilient beings. They’re able to grow in some of the harshest conditions and have the capability to regenerate cells for all parts (roots, leaves, flower, etc) from the same stem cells. Human and animal stem cells, on the other hand, are only capable of regenerating cells for that specific tissue type.
Let’s get specific
Although their ability to regenerate cells is part of what makes them so powerful, this is actually not what occurs on your skin, nor is it the reason we choose to include them in our formulas. The plant stem cells included in skincare formulas are not live cells and cannot regenerate human stem cells. Instead, they provide a high concentration of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, which helps defend against sun damage and aging. How high of a concentration, you may ask? Some plant stem cells contain a concentration of antioxidants 1,000 times greater than other forms of plant extracts.
In addition to their added antioxidants, plant stem cells are also highly pure and uncontaminated and contribute very little environmental impact. Plant stem cells really are the evolution and modernization of plant botanicals.
Are you convinced yet? Let’s take a look at our curated list of top plant stem cells, their purpose and their accompanying Phyto-Active products:
